Notes on tourism: Liguria is probably most known for Cinque Terre – the five small fishing villages approximately two minutes a part from each other by train. In 2019 they had more than 700.000 people visiting. The same year it was up for debate wether they should add a total limit to a million people each year, as a way to save the villages from becoming a theme park like Venice. The same applies to many of the popular destinations in Italy, like Florence, Milan and of course Rome.

This visual essay aims to explore these cities without the crowds, as a way to try and find their personalities or essence, when the spaces themselves have a sense of calm.
